Should You Sell on eBay?

By Joel Holmes

When most people ask me what I do for a living, and I tell them that I sell on eBay, many of them are surprised. You don't have a "real" job? You can make a living on eBay? You can still sell well in this economy? My answer to all of those questions is yes.

You see, it's not so unusual to me that I sell on eBay. I've tried offline business models before online models, and eBay is the only model that has worked for me so far. I had a student painting business and I had 15 students working for me. Now you'd think that having so many people working for me, I'd be able to make a significant profit. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. What happened was that I was booking painting jobs and running around like crazy. I was keeping my crews going with work, but at the end of the day, there wasn't any profits left for me.

Starting an eBay business was the opposite of my painting business. I didn't have to stress out about what my employees were doing. I didn't have to worry about spending lots of money in overhead expenses. I didn't have to drive all over the city to make sure things were running smoothly. I could just sit in front of a computer and manage everything from home. The hassle was gone. Now, all I had to do a few things on the computer, and then package and ship items when they sold. The stress was gone. What was most exciting about eBay, however, was that I could see the results. I got profits from the time and energy I put into it.

I'll always remember when I made my first sale on eBay. It was a Friday night and I was going out for dinner with my family. I looked at the PayPal account before I left and it said $0. So we went out and had a nice dinner. When I check the PayPal account again, there was money! It was so exciting to see that I made money while I was doing something completely unrelated. I went out for dinner and made money! I'm still amazed when I wake up in the morning and found that I've made money while I sleep.

The bottom line? It's much easier to sell on eBay than to start another business. I've shared how eBay is one of the best businesses that you can start. Now it's up to you. What are you going to do about it? - 22871
