3 eBay Product Sourcing Models

By Jesse Holmes

No matter what level of experience you have on eBay, there are three basic product sourcing models.

The first model is to become an eBay Trading Assistant and sell other people's products. These people can be anyone in your community who have items to sell. Once you sell items for other people, you can charge a commission. Once people know you sell on eBay, you'll have an unlimited stream of products to sell.

The second model is to sell many one-of-a-kind items. For example, you might specialize in selling rare hand-carved figurines. If you do, then every item needs its own description and pictures. Yet there are a few benefits to choosing this second model. First, you can hopefully build a fan base. If you sell unique items, these potential customers might be collectors who are sitting on the edge of their seat to see what you'll sell next. If you list your unique items at an auction (and there are many people who want them), then you could have a bidding war.

One of the disadvantages of selling one-of-a-kind items is that it is more time consuming than some other methods of listing items. For example, you'll never be able to take advantage of buying multiple quantities. You'll need to become really efficient at listing products, because that's where you can get bogged down. You'll juggle your time between finding the products to sell and actually listing the products that you've found.

Last, let's consider the third model, which is to buy inventory in bulk. This is the model that many eBay powersellers have found to work the best. Why? Well the main benefit is that you save a lot of time and energy in creating the listings. You only need to take the pictures and write the description once, even if you have hundreds or thousands of the same item for sale. You'll save a ton of time over creating listings for unique items. The great thing is that once you've made the listing, then you're done! You put the energy in once and get paid multiple times. One disadvantage of this method is that you might have to compete against other sellers who have recognized this too. Items that sell well tend to have a bit of competition. That's why learning the skills to sell on eBay are vital. But once you've learned, you'll be making money on eBay in no time. - 22871
