Are you looking to get employed?

By Fred Roswell

If you've ever held a job, chances are you'll be unemployed and looking for a new job at some point. Here are a few employment tips to help get you on the road toward the next phase of your career.

Make sure you have the mindset that employers are looking for. Getting laid off, downsized, changing careers- they all boil down to the same thing. Don't get panicky, and keep a cool head. Most people have been in your position at least once in their lives. Keep a can-do attitude about yourself, and you're sure to find an employer that's a match for you.

You should definitely talk to your former boss about a severance package and continued medical benefits, if applicable. Doing this will help you get ready to find a job. File for unemployment if you haven't done so already. Being a go-getter is a fine way to let a potential boss know that you can get things done..

Above all, learn how to cope with stress. There are many ways to find a job. No two people use the same method, and you may be a little confused as to what to do, but the employment tips given here will help. A lot of people put together a home office, complete with a PC and a phone.

Don't stop thinking about your different options. You may not find your dream job right away. It may be a good idea to seek a part time job, or self employment. Temp agencies are a good way to hone your skills, and if you are a good worker, you may end up landing a permanent job! Consider a longer commute in order to get to your new job, or perhaps relocate to be closer to where companies are hiring.

Ensure that your resume is up to date, and that it matches the skill set of your chosen field. You need to have good phone skills, and interview skills, both on the phone and in person.

In the recession, with employment rates steadily declining, it's inevitable that every one of us will one day be out of work. Try not to let it get you down. Things will turn around eventually, and you want to go into your new job poised and confident, don't you? Keep your head up, and stay positive! - 22871
